The Notting Hill Carnival is an annual event that has been taking place each August on the streets of Notting Hill since 1966. In the past few years, the carnival has attracted one 1 million people, so it’s one of the largest street festivals in the world!
2014 was my first visit to the carnival and it was mental, I’ve never seen such a fun and exciting street party, with so many trucks and people dancing. Jerk chicken, peas and rice is the Caribbean food of choice, drink red stripe bought on the street and pay £2 to use someone’s personal loo in their flat. Party in the park, dance with colourfully dressed girls and we avidly had to avoid being covered in chocolate as the “Chocolate nation” truck went by!
